Oh, forgot!

Usually, one gets gifts for one's birthdays. But Luteru Ross Poutoa Lote Taylor gifted every one at Kandy and the world over (except about 170 million Pakistanis) with an innings that can be pocketed and taken anywhere to be enjoyed just like a well-aged Merlot. Rajasthan Royals have gotten themselves a steal at 1 Mio!

The impact of his innings was such that the Pakistan team was shell-shocked and Rameez Raja had to resort to a dirge..."Pakistan has to get this game out of their system immediately!" (as if it was some poorly cooked chicken curry!)

And the Pakistani batting continued from where they left against Canada. But that doesn't prove anything, as we are talking about Pakistan here.

Leaves India as the only team in the competition to remain unbeaten along with Australia. What a consolation?!

Day 17: Kenya Canned!

The Canadians played a nice game. Bagai and Hansra showed their Assoc Class well and one wished that they had showed the same form/patience a few days ago. But then Ngoche is not Ajmal and Obuya is not Afridi :-}

I don't want to add to the cliches by saying that this win will do a world of good to the Canadians.

Anyway, this is as good as a game between Hong Kong and Papua New Guinea - except that this is the World Cup.

How will the people write bulletins for such an inconsequential game. Somehow, cricket seems to be throwing up so many of these inconseqs! Son says that it is the same in case of soccer as well. He quotes the entire 'S League' as case in point ;-)

11.1 87.2 kph, This is Bizarroworld. Ruvindu might be out stumped. Shambles from Ruvindu. Shambles from Ouma. Shambles all round. Stupidity, says Ian Chappell. It slips down the leg side. Ruvindu misses the flick. And looks back. He can't see the ball. He thinks it has trickled away to fine leg. Ouma, cunningly, hid the ball in his left glove. Once Ruvindu strayed out of the crease, Ouma looked to flick the bails off. And missed! He then flicked again. This time he hits the stumps. Ruvindu is still not in! Haven't seen something so bizarre from a batsmen since Inzamam tumbled onto his stumps, attempting to sweep Panesar. 48/3

The funny thing is Ruvindu was clearly attempting a run. Therefore, he can't be out stumped. He should have been declared "Run out". But then...

And those terrific (terrible?) Kenyan sun-glasses.....eeeeks....

The three boys are - as Raghav, Aditya and Yuva (2/3 right)  said - Shahrukh Khan, Barack Obama and Stevan Gerrard. Strange, but understandable, many thought that they are cricketers :-)

Day 16: Tale of a choke and a half!

An official announcement from Cricket South Africa:

With immediate effect, the South African Cricket team will be called as Choke Africa in recognition of their brilliant performances i.e., snatching defeats from nowhere. Also, the team will have a new official mascot - a sample of which is given below:

And India did what was expected of it. Make heavy weather of a simple chase. Dhoni tried something reasonable. But his batsmen decided to sleep-walk through the chase :-(

One thing is for certain. Get Ashwin for the next two games at least. Chawla somehow seems to have lost his zing.

Oh, the Irish are definitely the best Assoc side on sight. Get them and the Afghans into the 2015 tourney. The rest of the Assocs can...

Day 15: Time to look back

What promised to be a nice little contest, fizzled out under the downpour.

No issues.

Time to look back the fortnight that was in CWC 2011:

• Australia got pissed off, that their first two overs against Zimbabwe was equated to spot-fixing. What next? Will playing out a maiden be investigated?
• Ponting continues to be on a short-fuse; first the TV-breaking saga, then in today's game, he was gesticulating harshly at Dilshan when he withdrew at the last minute while facing to Tait.
• Leg-spinners are making all the headlines; Tahir, Afridi, Balaji Rao, Warne... the last one for his 'tie' prophecy ;-)
• Munaf preferred Kevin O'Brien's murder to Saat Khoon Maaf - now that is really something - pulling a heartlander out of a Bollywood flick!
• Afridi has not bitten any of the balls - yet. But he is definitely on the way to become the highest wicket taker in this WC.
• Bangladesh won the world cup, after beating Ireland; by the same token, India won the world cup after beating the Banglas :-)
• And, no, I am not going to refer to that tie!
• Funny, that even after a fortnight, we are not yet into the knock-out stage - or for that matter, don't know who would end up in the KO stage, even though there are only 14 nations in the fray!!

Q Part:

It was finally a question of whether you knew your factorials are not.

(71 + 1) (71-1) = 7! 

Raghav, Guru and SriniG got the right answer. Yuva came back with an innovative answer albeit with some re-arrangements which were not allowed. (71 + (1 - 1) . 71 = 71)

Pity, eight people came forward and put their shirt on for the SL v AUS game, only to be thwarted by rain.

No change to the B status as the game was not completed normally - and the tie-breakers will not be applied for an abandoned game. (BQ rules, you see!)

But definitely the spirit is appreciated and it needs to be kept up. So, go ahead and make tomorrow's double header a memorable one.
